Bowling Green is home to the second largest university in Kentucky, Western Kentucky University. It also sits outside of Nashville. If you venture outside of Louisville or Lexington, Bowling Green is a nice sized town with some great restaurants. Here are some of our favorites!
1. Smokey Pig BBQ
Smokey Pig BBQ is a place where everything is cooked over wood coals. Western Kentucky is big into BBQ, and Smokey Pig has been offering it to the community since 1969.
Portions are generous, and you will find all the usual suspects for a BBQ dinner: pulled pork, brisket, ribs and plenty of great sides. Plenty of sauce options are available for every taste.
2. The Bistro
Located in the historic downtown district of Bowling Green, The Bistro sits just two blocks from Fountain Square. Enjoy some sophisticated and fine dining right in the heart of town.
The Bistro also offers private parties, catering and weddings so this is a go-to place for that special event. Check out some unique dishes like Rabbit with risotto or a champagne chicken with mushroom ravioli or maybe something like shrimp and grits. You won’t be disappointed.
3. Cambridge Market & Cafe
Come to the Cambridge cafe for a mixture of gourmet and southern food. This is also your stop for gourmet catering. The locals know this eatery for the white bean chowder soup and cheesecakes.
You can also check back often for the specials. Currently serving Bourbon Glazed Chicken, Fresh Grilled Atlantic Salmon, Grilled Marinated Chicken, Meatloaf and Roast Beef Manhattan style.
4. Boyce General Store
The Boyce General Store has been named one of “The South’s Most Charming General Stores” by Souther living, so you don’t want to miss a quaint spot that sends you back to simpler times.
Local area farmers are serving up the general store with meats and produce for breakfast that is available from Tuesday through Saturday. The store also offers weekly catfish Fridays.
5. Chaney’s Dairy Barn
Chaney’s Dairy Barn is a unique farm spot with plenty to offer. Come to share a scoop of ice cream or even grab dinner with friends. Maybe you want a local gallon of milk on your way home? Or maybe a farm tour is in store? There are so many ways to experience the greatness that is at this dairy farm.
6. Lost River Pizza Company
Looking for fresh and local pizza while in Bowling Green? The Lost River Pizza Company delivers fresh dough and real cheese along with a fun atmosphere, games and beer. Also a great place to watch a game.
7. White Squirrel Brewery
At White Squirrel Brewery, you have found the spot to enjoy and support local beer and also get some great food. At White Squirrel, they brew in tiny batches which means that beer selections rotate often, ebb and flow with the seasons and allow you to constantly try something new.
8. Double Dogs Chow House
Featuring over 100 craft and imported beers, Double Dogs is another great spot to eat, drink and watch a big game. Foods will look like a typical sports bar, but the quality is elevated with things like hand cut and fried tortillas and hand-breaded chicken tenders and wings. Check it out for your next social outing or game day.
9. 440 Main
Using fresh ingredients grown in Kentucky, 440 Main has a diverse menu from steaks to seafood for the special occasion in mind. Banquet rooms are available for many occasions with no room fee.
