Aphrodisiac Foods: Foods that Make you Horny

Call it an aphrodisiac. Call it a sex enhancer. You can call it what you may, but you have probably heard rumors of certain foods working to increase sex drive or performance. We wanted to find out if there was any truth to the story that certain foods can make you horny.

Looking to advice of nutritionists, doctors and others, we found some good old science between the foods you eat and your sex drive. Whether you are asking for a “friend” or want to know for yourself, we hope a nice meal with the right foods can get your “friend” ready to perform in no time. If viagra was your next stop, maybe you can find another way first.

We found that the following foods had a rationale for improving the libido:

Almonds

Almonds are a food that are a very old food fertility symbol. They tend to be seen as healthy snack that is rich in vitamin E. Many believe vitamin E to be one of the leading antioxidants for sexual health. Almonds are also very high in other vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber and fats.

Arugula

Arugula first showed up on the scene in the early first century. Dark leafy greens like arugula are known to block harmful environmental contaminants. These harmful contaminants can negatively effect your libido.

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha was first mentioned in one of the oldest texts on sexuality, the Kama Sutra. The plant of the Ashwagandha helps reduce stress levels and blood pressure. Blood pressure is one of the leading causes of impotence.

It is also an adatogen as it makes adrenal glands stronger which can help out in stressful situations. Some studies have shown cortisol levels lowered by as much as 27 per cent from the use of ashwagandha.

The plant has also been shown to increase testosterone levels in men significantly. Symptoms of lower testosterone can be hair loss, lost muscle mass and the ability to last longer in bed.

Avacado

Avacados have very high levels of vitamin E. Vitamin E can help increase your energy levels and a creator a “younger and more energetic you”

Another vitamin is riboflavin. Riboflavin improves blood circulation and the formation of RBCs. A little extra blood circulation “down there” can’t hurt things.

It isn’t just recent times that this was considered useful. As far back as 200 B.C., the Aztecs considered Avacado an aphrodesiac. In fact, the Aztec word for Avacado means “testicles.”

It is also thought that a sexual shape can help bring forward sensual feelings. The avocado can bring to mine the curves of a woman’s body or male genitalia.

Asparagus

Asparagus is also high in vitamin E. In addition to energy levels, this can also increase hormones like estrogen in women and testosterone in men. The ending effect is increased stimulation and a natural lubrication.

Bananas

Bananas have that nice phallic shape that can induce those aphrodisiac feelings, but there is also some good science. They also contain bromelain that can increase testosterone production. In addition, the vitamin B can increase energy levels to be ready for sex.

Blueberries are one of the greatest sources of antioxidants in what we can eat. These berries can reduce cholesterol and inflammation. A small amount of berries a day has been shown to increase energy and stamina in bed. They also promote blood flow which is very important in the libido category.

Broccali

Cruciferous vegetables like broccali have been known to help boost testosterone. This happens because of something called an indole. The indole works to break down estrogen and enable the testosterone to flourish. For you older men out there, maybe this is worth a shot to get back to the testosterone and sex drive of your youth!

Cardamom

Many people have never heard of cardamom, but it is a spice with strong aroma. The spice carries high levels of cineole. This cineole can increase blood flow when applied to areas of the body. This carries the claim of treating impotence.

Chai Tea

Chai tea has been thought to carry many spices that you will find elsewhere on this list. This can combine things like anise, cardamom, ginger and cloves. These together can help improve blood circulation, stimulate arousal and help out that libido overall.

Chili Peppers

If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. This is one that may not be for the faint of heart. These peppers can stimulate endorphins. Endorphins are the way that the brain feels pleasure. They also get your heart rate going and can lead to some sweating. These things combined can give you the feeling of a good arousal.

Chocolate

There are some arguments about whether chocolate can help your libido, but many agree that the benefits of dark chocolate are more clear. Dark chocolates include flavanols that are a key fighter of inflammation. This keeps blood flow going well and overall keeps you feeling good in multiple ways.

Coffee

Coffee is America’s (and the World’s) favorite drug, feeding our caffeine addictions. That shot of energy puts us all in a better mood. That said, there are also studies that show that female rats sought more sex when given a shot of caffeine.

Eggs

The egg is another one of the ancient aphrodisiac symbols. Eggs are really high in B vitamins (B5 and B6) These have been known to help you balance hormone levels and fight off stress. There is also a wives tale that raw eggs eaten before sex can increase one’s libido.

Figs

The story of the Figs goes way back. Cleopatra’s favorite food was the fig, and for a long time in history, a fig has been a symbol of female sex organs. Therefore, it has long been thought that figs can increase fertility. In ancient Greece, figs were considered one of the most valuable possessions.

Fish (Think Salmon)

Many fish like salmon are vitamin rich in things like vitamins A, D, B and calcium. These vitamins are all expected to give your libido a lift. Many now see this fish as a real sexual powerhouse.

Another interesting fact about salmon is that they live to reproduce in massive quantities. In fact, their eggs, pearls of the sea, are often given credit as some of the worlds’ best aphrodisiacs as well.

Garlic

This one is a bit tricky. I can’t imagine that anyone would go after garlic breath to get their partner in the mood! That said, garlic carries some strong properties when eaten. Garlic has been seen to give stamina and an abundance of energy. The ancient Greeks even had their athletes eat garlic prior to Olympic competition to help them reach top performance.

Ginger

Ginger has been holding on to the aphrodisiac list for centuries. It all started with a good scent, but science has also shown us that garlic can help improve circulation of the circulatory system. In addition, many see an increased sensitivity in their erogenous zones.

Honey

Honey can work in a few ways to help our your libido. One property is that is contains nitric oxide. This is released during arousal. It also contains boron to help regulate hormones. The symbol goes back centuries as a symbol of procreation and fertility.

Maca Powder

Many have thought that maca is a really effect aphrodisiac. WebMD looked into it and think some of the claims may be exaggerated. That said, some studies have shown that maca slightly improved sexual desire. There is also some evidence that maca may increase sperm count and therefore fertility in men.

Oats

In Chinese medicine, oats have been used for a long time to treat low libido. There have actually been studies that have shown oats to significantly increase levels of testosterone, so head towards a bowl of oats in the morning, men!

Olive Oil

Olive Oil is packed with antioxidants and monosaturated and polysaturated fats. To speak of the greeks again, that often that that olive oil made men more virile. The healthy fats found are good for your heart, hormone function and blood flow.

Oysters

Oysters can be seen to be a sensual experience just eating them. As desire happens in your ears and all other places in your body, this can be a self fulfilling prophecy. Oysters are also a great sounce of zinc which leads to healthy sperm count in men.
